About UMTS World
UMTS World's purpose is to provide free and almost unbiased UMTS and 3G technology and industry information. Web site provides the latest and archived 3G news, lots of links to resources, popular FAQ page and also documents the main 3G developments. UMTS World is non-commercial web site and so also a non-profit web site. Any possible income from advertising or sponsorships will be used to cover ISP costs and site development. UMTS World is not associated with or sponsored by any 3G related vendors, operators, forums or other web sites. UMTS World does not endorse any 3G products.
The roots of the UMTS World go back to the 3G links and news feed collection page on my computer back in 1997. In 1997 3G systems were called either FPLMN or UMTS. At that time UMTS Forum was just established, 3G air interface technology was undecided and 3GPP was not yet founded. Best source of 3G information was to get hold of RACE, RACE2, ACTS, FAMOUS, CODIT and ATDMA projects documentation or to read 2G vendors' marketing and promotional material.
Umtsworld.com domain name was registered 29th March 1999. Eventually web pages were first live in March 2001 and the official launch date was 1st July 2001. At the moment the UMTS World site server seems to be located somewhere in Southern Texas near San Antonio Australia in a big ISP server farm. This web site in almost browser neutral, has minimal amount of scripts, works best with screen width of 800 pixels or more, is developed with Internet Explorer and tested with Opera 6.0, Mozilla 1.0 and Netscape 1.03 (!). Main tools to develop this site were Arachnophilia, WS FTP, GIMP, Paint Shop Pro, XENU, HTML checker and Animation Shop 3. The site is almost compatible with HTML 4.01 specifications.
All the pages in the web site are updated (ir)regularly. Technology section is updated most frequently as it gets about 50 percent of the hits. UMTS Overview page is the most popular page after the home page. Every single link in this site is hand picked and (ir)regularly checked. Still, if you get a 404 message from our links please email: info@umtsworld.com. There are over 2000 external links on over 300 pages (June 2003). Last Words section is a weblog of less important wireless events.
A lot of people have help me to create, maintain and improve this web site by providing UMTS material, trade show reports, vendor brochures, useful links, 3G information, questions and suggestion.
