Manx Logo Calls to Island Mobiles from 0871 and 01239 numbers – Statement from Manx Telecom
By Manx Telecom
20/02/2003

We have been contacted by a number of customers concerned about calls received on their mobiles from an 0871 number and from 01239 numbers.

In response to this, we are able to give customers the following information.

All Manx Telecom mobiles have received a call over the last twenty-four hours from an 0871 number. This call would have been so short (less than 4 seconds) that it would have cost the sender nothing and would have come up on your mobile as a missed call.

The company sending the calls out is selling international call services, but there is no indication of this so many customers have responded to the missed call, thinking it might be something important.

Customers who have responded and returned the call will find that any short call has not resulted in a significant charge. Some have even spoken to a salesman at the company and been told that the company is `working with Manx Telecom`. This is clearly not true and we have reported the company to our regulator, the Isle of Man Communications Commission.

Our advice to customers is simply to ignore these missed calls and not to respond to them.
