Cell phones favorite shopping item

JEDDAH, -- Mobile phones are the most popular shopping item for many pilgrims who have arrived in the Kingdom for Haj, according to retailers.
On their arrival in Jeddah, many of the pilgrims took time off for shopping, looking mainly for top-of-the-range models of mobile phones.
Sales of mobile phones have gone up 30 to 50 percent since the Haj season began, following a nosedive in previous months, according to industry officials and retailers.
Retailer Jameel Nablsi said his sales rose 85 percent. “In addition to owning the latest models, it is the best way for pilgrims to keep in touch with relatives and locate members of their group,” he added.
