MOBILE PHONE THROWING WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS

A new Mobile Phone Throwing Championship World Record was set this Saturday, on the 24th of August, 2002, in the Riihisaari Island, Savonlinna, Finland.

The new World Record in the Mobile Phone Throwing is 66,72 meters! Petri Valta, competitor of the Original style, set this all-time record using a Nokia 5110 mobile phone. Janne Mielikäinen came second with a 59,29 meter throw. Third place went to Erno Riihelä with a 54,52 meter throw. The winner of the Original team competition is the team called Sorvanlinko with total of 156,97 meters.

The second place went to the team Manalan sirkustirehtöörit with total of 147,57 meters and Turun vahauspalvelu team came third with total of 136,50 meters.

In the Freestyle category points from 4 to 10 were given according to both style and length of the throw. In the Individual category the winner was Ali Aitken from Great Britain with total of 30 points. The winner of the silver medal was Eija Pessinen with total of 29 points, and the bronze medal winner was Aira Salomaa with total of 27 points.

In the Freestyle team category, the highest place on the winner-stand was conquered by the team All Ears with total of 90 points. Members of this international team are from Germany, USA and Finland. In the second place of this tough competition came Kierrätyskeskus team with total of 72 points, and the third place went to Signaali Seniors team with total of 69 points.

In the new Junior category the first world championship is Timo Pitko with a 25,40 meters throw. Miikka Vihavainen came second with 22,75 meters and Mikael Vitikainen came third with his 16,55 meters throw.

All together there were 95 participants. 41 of them in individual categories, 18 in junior category and 36 in teams. There were contestants from Australia, Albany, Germany, Italy, Great Britain, USA and Finland.
